Founded more than a decade ago, Lifestory Research's America's Most Trusted® study examines how customers make decisions based on trust. This research seeks to provide consumer-driven data insights using social and opinion science research methods that adhere to the highest quality standards.
In more than 50 studies annually, we survey thousands of people about their perceptions and experiences with different brands. Once a year, we share insights into what consumers say are the most trusted brands.
Brands and companies differentiate themselves through trust. In order for a company or a brand to succeed, it must focus on trust. Trust leads to profits, loyalty, positive word-of-mouth, and customer satisfaction. When customers trust a business, revenue rises, costs fall, and customer satisfaction soars.
The rankings are based on the Net Trust Index Quotient Score as defined by three levels of consumer trust: Trust Advocates, Trust Neutral, and Trust Antagonists. A Trust Advocate expresses significant trust in a brand, whereas a Trust Antagonist vocalizes distrust. A brand receiving the highest Net Trust Index Quotient Score is the most trusted brand among consumers within the product research study. The Lifestory Research 2023 America’s Most Trusted® Smart Thermostat Study found Honeywell as the most trusted brand among people considering the purchase of a smart thermostat. With a Net Trust Quotient Score of 112.7, Honeywell had the highest trust rating among the most popular smart thermostat brands.
The most trusted smart thermostat brands, in order, were Honeywell, Trane, Nest, Lennox, Carrier, Ecobee, Lux, Emerson Sensi, and GLAS. Honeywell received the best reviews and trust ratings among the most popular smart thermostat brands as judged by consumers.
The Lifestory Research 2023 America’s Most Trusted® Smart Thermostat ranking is based on 3,626 opinions of people surveyed between January and December in the United States. Brands included in the final ranking were nationally recognized by people actively shopping for a smart thermostat. Smart Thermostat trust reflects how people rank the quality of smart thermostats. Trust is also critical in customer satisfaction ratings of smart thermostats.
If a smart thermostat brand had a low brand awareness and did not have enough brand judgments, these brands were excluded from the rankings. For brands to qualify and be included in the national smart thermostat ratings, the number of survey responses needed to exceed a 95% confidence level with a margin of error less than 3%.
