The 2024 America’s Most Trusted Study

Commencing more than a decade ago, the America’s Most Trusted® study was launched to offer invaluable insights for brands seeking a deeper understanding of how trust impacts consumer purchasing behavior. Astute brands acknowledge that consumer trust directly shapes business performance. This study has emerged as the definitive benchmark for assessing brand trust, eagerly awaited annually, with updated findings disclosed in January.

Lifestory Research shares the most recent results of America's Most Trusted® every year. We surveyed thousands to learn about their perceptions and experiences with specific homebuilder brands. Net Trust Quotient Scores determine how much consumers trust specific brands when shopping for products.

Net Trust Quotient Scores (NTQS) are a metric that assesses whether consumers are confident about a particular brand within a particular product category. The scores determine if the product meets consumer expectations compared to competitors. Using social and opinion science research practices that adhere to the highest quality consumer research standards, this trust metric aims to provide consumer-driven insights into consumer behavior.

What are the top home builders people trust the most?

The Lifestory Research ratings, reviews, and awards are based on detailed survey feedback based on the opinions and trust ratings of those surveyed in the home builder study. We do not use third-party reviews and ratings, editorial committees, or industry professionals in determining the most trusted home builder brands. We rely on real people's opinions and rigorous social scientific survey standards to obtain home builder ratings, including sample sizes designed to reflect the target audience's opinions. All home builder research findings are exclusively founded on the opinions of people who independently completed the surveys in America's Most Trusted Research program.

2024 America’s Most Trusted Home Builder

In the 2024 America’s Most Trusted® Home Builder Study by Lifestory Research, Taylor Morrison emerged as the leading brand in trust. Earning a Net Trust Quotient Score of 109.9, Taylor Morrison obtained the highest trust rating among the top home builders. Notably, this marks the ninth consecutive year (2016-2024) that Taylor Morrison has secured the coveted #1 position for trust in the America's Most Trusted® Home Builder Study.

The Lifestory Research 2024 America’s Most Trusted® Home Builder ranking is based on 58,991 opinions of people surveyed in the United States over the last 12 months. The most trusted home builders, in order, were Taylor Morrison, TriPointe Homes, Toll Brothers, Ashton Woods, LGI Homes, Mattamy Homes, K. Hovnanian, Dream Finders, David Weekley, Century Communities, Richmond American, M/I Homes, Pulte Homes, Meritage Homes, DRB Homes, Ryan Homes, Lennar, DR Horton, Beazer Homes, and KB Home. Taylor Morrison received the best reviews and trust ratings among the most popular home builders as judged by consumers.

Brands included in the final ranking were nationally recognized by people actively shopping for a new home. Trust is a direct measure of how people rank the quality of home builders, review and evaluate the quality of a builder, and ultimately assess home builder customer satisfaction.

To be included in the final ranking, brands must have a certain level of brand awareness. Brands with low brand awareness were excluded from the rankings based on the study's criteria. Brands must have received enough survey responses to achieve a 95% confidence level with no more than a 3% margin of error to be included in the final ranking of the study. This confidence level is necessary to ensure that the survey results accurately reflect the opinions of the surveyed population. The sample size must also be large enough to ensure the validity of the survey results. Therefore, the study excluded brands that did not meet this condition.

Home Builders Ranked in Study

The Lifestory Research America’s Most Trusted® research study actively surveys new home shoppers throughout the year in the largest housing markets in the United States. The study is focused on measuring consumers' opinions of the largest home builders operating in each of the markets in the study. In the study, consumers rate the quality of the home builder, their likelihood to recommend the builder, how favorable they feel about the builder, how they rate their reputation, positive and negative comments they have heard about a builder, and trust in the builder.

Typically, the study identifies and measures consumer opinions of the largest builders in each market. The study aims to measure consumer opinions within each housing market and to collect enough surveys to have a high confidence in the results, or what researchers call a low margin of error.

The annual America’s Most Trusted® study ranks the 20 largest home builders in the United States based on the thousands of consumers who rated their trust in the home builder. While the study collects ratings on many builders, the America’s Most Trusted® ranking only examines the 20 biggest home builders based on the prior year’s home closings.
